Simon Coy and Pat Malone went to the Royal Geographical Society in London recently to receive a prestigious national navigation trophy from the Duke of Edinburgh.

Simon and Pat, both pilots, were awarded the British Airline Pilots Association Trophy for winning the South West area ‘TopNav’ competition, a national contest in which pilots navigate aircraft the old-fashioned way, using only chart, compass and stopwatch. The pair came within three points of winning the whole national contest, which was flown from three airfields – Bodmin, White Waltham near Maidenhead, and Sherburn-in-Elmet in Yorkshire.
