Withiel is a small rural parish  just off the A30 in North Cornwall. It occupies a total area of 3,093 acres on the southern slope of the Ruthern River valley, and is approximately six miles from Bodmin and seven miles from Wadebridge. Most of the land within the parish is agricultural. The nearest major shopping and cultural centre is Truro, some 22 miles to the southwest. The nearest retail outlets and a petrol filling station are located some three miles from the village.

The centre of population is Withiel village, with two nearby hamlets at Withielgoose and Retire. The last official figures available (1991) showed 119 households and in 1998 the population was 380.

Withiel parish is served by a parish council and has a parish church, St Clement’s. The village hall with car parking, children’s play area and sports field is located in the centre of the village.
