Judy welcomed members and visitors and went on to introduce our speaker, Norman Trebilcock, who, for many years was a paramedic as well as a marathon runner, fundraiser and all-round good guy. When he retired from the ambulance service he and five colleagues needed a project and bought a redundant garden nursery near Sticker. With 13.5 acres of overgrown land and ponds they rolled up their sleeves and, with two years of hard graft, they transformed the derelict site into a wildlife oasis which attracts numerous frogs, newts and dragonflies and of course the water lilies, which were thinned out, now bloom to make a beautiful garden scene.
Our WI is planning a visit later in the year to admire the efforts of Norman and his team of volunteers.
Norman went on to judge the competition which was a daffodil grown from bulbs that were handed out to members at Christmas time.
