Based at Sterts Arts Centre, Upton Cross, near Liskeard, PL14 5AZ.
We are delighted to announce advance details of the sixth annual Bodmin Moor Poetry Festival. BMPF has grown steadily each year, and has now become a highlight of the UK’s poetry calendar, as well as a popular event locally.
It has always been our aim to present poetry alongside other complementary art-forms, and this year we take that idea a step (or several) further as we partner with local dance activist Lois Taylor, to present a week-end where dance will intertwine with poetry in ways never seen before!
The week-end will be the usual exciting mix of readings, workshops, walks, music, visual art and film, but many of these elements will, we hope, interact seamlessly with dance and dancers! Other dancers taking part will include Sarah Fairhall, Ben Dunks and All Boys Dance Company. The menu will also include celebrations of the centenary of the great Cornish poet Charles Causley, and of the life and work of one of the great poets of song, Leonard Cohen. !
Confirmed so fare are: award-winning Indian poet and dancer Tishani Doshi, Hannah Lowe, Martha Sprackland, Edward Doegar, Zaffar Kunial, Adam Horovitz, Jos Smith and Rebbecca Goss. Acclaimed vocalist Barb Jungr will pay homage to the two great poets of song, new Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan AND the sadly recently departed Leonard Cohen. !
The festival will close with the extraordinary Ben Duke, and his personal take on Milton’s epic ‘Paradise Lost’, a tour de force mixture of poetry, dance and stand-up comedy! The festival exhibition this year is The Poetry of Dance, featuring drawings by Stephanie Fraser alongside poems by Ann Gray and others. Updates will follow here & tickets on sale soon from Sterts Box Office. !
