Cornwall Folk Festival, Wadebridge

Thu, 24 Aug 17 - Mon, 28 Aug 17

Cornwall Folk Festival is proud to team up with Haywood Farm Cider this year to help keep the mood merry throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Farm owner Tom Bray has been keen to support the local area and to get his quality cider out to as many visitors and locals to sample during the festival.

A star studded cast will be performing alongside numerous Cornish musicians with afternoon and evening concerts in the Town Hall. A folk club will also be held each evening with many of our star performers opting from the main concert stage to perform alongside local singers and musicians doing ” floor spots”. Everybody is encouraged to attend at least one of concert or maybe the folk club as the revenue taken from these events enable us to sustain and maintain its future viability – so it is vital to make every effort to support one or some of our events please!

There is an added addition of a free music Fringe Tent where regional, young bands and singers get a real chance to promote themselves. Some of the Bands who played here last year are on the main stage this year and have subsequently been booked by other festivals now as well. We pride ourselves in leading the field in promoting ( what we regard ) as our next generation of stars in the folk world! There are various “folk sessions ” being held all around Wadebridge to support this policy with our veteran singers rubbing shoulders / encouraging with young new talent. Check out our numerous workshops by buying a programme or take the kids to the childrens events, watch our street entertainment, visit the Folk Arts/ Craft Fair or just indulge yourselves , chill out and participate in this great Summer Bank Holiday weekend event – Enjoy !

What’s it all about?

Now in its fourth decade, the former Wadebridge, now titled the Cornwall Folk Festival runs over three days in early August mixing local talent with acts from further afield to produce a varied programme of events to suit all tastes. The event draws musicians and fans alike from all over the UK to experience unique Cornish and Celtic musical heritage and dance culture.

What happens?

The festival takes place at various venues in Wadebridge and the whole town is alive to the sound of music. Not only is there an international line up of folk from Cornwall and  Brittany to Africa and the USA but you’ll also find singers and instrument workshops, street entertainment, tune sharing sessions and children’s games and face painting.

How can you take part?

Get in the groove and join in the fun at concerts, ceilidhs, sessions and workshops. Cornwall benefits from some of the best weather in the UK but the Folk Festival differs from all others in that there’s the added advantage of all venues being undercover and in the warm. So if it’s raining outside there’s no problem as you can kick back and listen to some great folk music whilst sampling local Cornish food and enjoying a wide choice of Cornish real ales and ciders.
