At St Clement’s, a farming parish, our farming year starts on Sunday January 8, at 11.15, with a Plough Sunday service taken by Don McQuillen-Wright. This celebrates the traditional return of workers to the fields, with horses of course, to prepare the ground for sowing. We follow this service with a Bring a Plate lunch in the Church Room, to which all are welcome.
The other two farming Sundays are Rogation Sunday and our Harvest Festival. Rogation Sunday is the fifth Sunday after Easter – May 14 this year. It’s a day when we ask God to bless the crops (to ask is rogare in Latin), the farmers who work the land, and we can pray for our environment which makes all this possible.
Finally our Harvest Festival is, as always, the first Sunday in October, Sunday October 1 in 2023.
