The Big Cycle

Joanna and Colin Shapter of St Wenn plan to finish their epic bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats this summer. It’s a massive 1,200-mile effort to showcase the work of a special Cornish charity – Penhaligon’s Friends – and on  August 8 they set off with Jayne Shepperd, one of the charity’s volunteers, on the final leg from Bristol.  The three cyclists, who have a combined age of 213, hope to complete their journey on September 15.

Penhaligon’s Friends supports bereaved families with children and young people in Cornwall. There are more details in July’s News and Views (right).

“If you feel able to donate to the cause we would be truly grateful,” says Joanna. “All fundraising money will be going to Penhaligon’s Friends as the costs of the trip are being covered personally. We’ve already raised more than £2,000, with £400 coming from the pop-up pub at St Wenn – brilliant!“
