Ruthern swarm

The beekeeper was called to remove a swarm from the postbox at Ruthernbridge at the end of May. It was just one of many swarms in the area. According to Mr Harris, who has been keeping bees for more than 60 years and manages 100 hives in and around Withiel, the problem lies with inexperienced beekeepers. Hives need to be checked every week, he says. When people go on holiday, or simply forget, the queens get fed up and buzz off, taking their workers with them.
