Welcome to the Withiel Village Website

News and Views online at last

News and Views is a community magazine edited and produced by Ted and Jenny Pentland. For 20 years they have gathered dates of flower festivals, pub nights, hunt balls and yoga classes, dog shows, pantomimes and Christmas parties. They have published news of weddings and funerals, book clubs, autumn shows and church services, as well as  memories of the old days and plans for the future. All this and more is provided each and every month.

IMPORTANT NOTICE – For the attention of all residents

As the current health situation unfolds, we want to remind everyone to look after their neighbour!

During the next few weeks, maybe months, we are all going to experience unprecedented difficulties, both practical and economic.

We don’t know exactly what will happen from one day to the next and our usual routine has already been upset, not only by the fear of contracting Coronavirus, but also by all the restrictions and panic surrounding its arrival here in the UK.

In Withiel we are more fortunate than most, having space around us and a very small population, most of whom know one another. We are also lucky to have a shop at the Ruthern Valley Campsite for basic groceries, a vegetable supplier at The Real Food Garden and meat can be ordered from Lobbs in Ruthernbridge.

Can I just remind all residents to keep a close eye on family and neighbours, albeit from a safe distance. If your neighbour is alone, elderly, not computer literate or suffering any kind of ill health, disability or disadvantage please offer to help!

People may need shopping, dog walking, collection of medications or simply a friendly phone conversation and it will be up to all of us to make sure that everyone in the parish eats well, stays safe and stays in touch. Our immune system needs good food, fresh air and exercise to work properly.

Here is a regularly updated link to Cornwall Council’s latest information about the situation to keep people in the loop: https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/health-and-social-care/public-health-cornwall/information-about-coronavirus-covid-19/

The most vulnerable people may not see this information and so we can all make a small effort to print out anything which is relevant and make sure it has been seen. For those of you who do use the internet, there is a Facebook local support group – Covid-19 Support | Withiel & St Wenn – set up to provide information and to keep locals in touch. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need to!

The new Withiel Parish Council website – http://www.withiel.info and the village website – http://withiel.com may both carry information as it becomes available.
